1. Alta Pavina

Alta Pavina is the only producer of the Pinot Noir variety in the Ribera del Duero area (Valladolid), remaining outside the limits of the DO and benefiting from the VTCyL. Established in 1985, it was acquired by the Ortega Brothers in 2004 who transmitted their cosmopolitan vision to the project, producing more current wines with the full profile of the variety but with the character of Castilian wines. Over the years they introduced other varieties produced with their only vision. Current and cosmopolitan wine producers have received very important national and international recognitions. The quality of their wines is treasured due to the considerable success that their wines are having in the countless markets that have decided to bet on them.

The East Coast of the United States is its main supporter, although you can find Alta Pavina wines in almost all of Europe and many countries in Central America such as Panama, Costa Rica, as well as Mexico and Canada in North America, China and Japan.

Luis Angel Briones, being from a family of patient viticultors, is in love with the land. In 2010 he and his wife, Carmen Abad, embarked on a new project, to develop complexity with the queen of varieties in the Ribera del Duero, the Tempranillo grape. This dream begins by carefully nurturing the vines from planting to harvest which is done by hand both on the vine and in the winery. “I aim to transmit the passion and respect I feel for the vine and that people will enjoy this in my wines.”

A fusion of Asturian and Roman winemaking traditions gave shape to this project in a borderland. The region was noted for its grapes, rooted in history and culture. Production was destined for processing in subway cellars. Time and changes brought this practice almost to extinction. Pedro Cidón, a young man with passion and experience, took over the management of an old cooperative. With a philosophy of quality, he focused on pre-phylloxera vineyards. Our philosophy is embodied in every step of the process, with minimal intervention and extreme care: Centennial vineyards, phenolic maturity, controlled fermentation of free-run juice in concrete tanks, and French and American oak barrels. Each bottle is a tribute to the passion, craftsmanship and dedication that create unique stories in every sip.

We are a family winery producing quality wines in a traditional way, taking care of each part of the process carefully to get the best of the results. We make wines that leave a mark. Our experience in the wine business working for other wineries and our passion for a job well done made us to take the decision of starting our own dream. In 2015, Lar de Maía was born. We were very interested in making wines with personality, from the inside of the bottle, the most important part, to the outside. This is what the consumer sees first before taking the decision to buy the bottle. Our philosophy is making natural wines, without additives, with character so when you taste them you will know that things well done are always the best.
